Learn how to prevent specific packages from updating in Redhat using the exclude command in the yum configuration file or by temporarily excluding them during updates.

You can easily hold back packages from manual or automatic updates using the exclude command

Example

vi /etc/yum.conf

Add the following at the bottom of the file

exclude=httpd*

Alternatively you can temporarily hold back a specific package during a yum update , at bash prompt type

yum -x httpd update
